Joan was born to Oleta Rodgers and Gervis Miller. After the passing of her father, her mother later remarried Billie H. Rodgers, who proudly served in the United States Army. Joan grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where her story began and where many of her earliest memories were made.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Helen Sue Vaughn.
Standing tall at 5’7”, Joan carried herself with confidence and elegance. Her beautiful hair, warm smile, and contagious, commercial-worthy laugh could light up even the darkest space. She was witty, wise, and effortlessly funny — the kind of woman who made others feel seen, welcomed, and cherished.
Joan’s life was not without struggle. She faced hardships that shaped her story and tested her strength. Yet through it all, she leaned on Jesus. Her relationship with the Lord was deeply personal and sustaining. In moments of weakness, she sought His strength. In seasons of uncertainty, she trusted His guidance. Her faith was not just something she spoke about — it was something she clung to.
Though life’s journey included seasons of distance and reunion, love ultimately wrote the final chapter. In the last ten years, reconciliation brought renewed connection, treasured memories, and the gift of experiencing her tenderness and kindness in a new and meaningful way.
Joan was a mother to four children: Deni, Shelby, Jay, and Shana. Each carries forward a part of her spirit. Her love, even when complicated by life’s circumstances, remained a thread woven through every story.
She will be remembered for her beauty, her laughter, her resilience, and the light she brought into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Her family finds comfort in knowing that the same Jesus she leaned on in life welcomed her home in peace.
She was deeply loved. She will be deeply missed. And she will never be forgotten.
