

Jose Ismael Cardenas, a former machinist at both the Tinker and Kelly Air Force Bases, died February 14, 2023 after a long illness. Cardenas, 77, was born on Nov. 3, 1945, in San Antonio. He graduated from South San Antonio High School in 1964, the first of his family to graduate from high school. Cardenas married Maria Morales of Saspamco, Texas, on September 9, 1967. Cardenas was a long-time civil service employee. He worked as a machinist for two military installations for 37 years.
Cardenas is survived by his wife, Maria; six children: Darlene (Cardenas) De La Garza and her husband, Mark De La Garza of San Antonio, Jose I. Cardenas Jr., Allan Bruce Cardenas, Delissa Yvette Cardenas, Aaron Jacob Cardenas and Kevin Isaac Cardenas, all of Midwest City. Other survivors include one sister, Dora Morales, of Lytle, Texas; six grandchildren: Christian De La Garza, Jasmine De La Garza of San Antonio, Scythe Cardenas, Kevin Isaac Cardenas Jr., MariElla Geraldine Cardenas, and Amelia JoAnna Cardenas all of Midwest City. He is remembered by countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2023 at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home in Del City. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023 at the Eisenhour facility.
