He was born on December 20, 1949 in Lafayette, AL as the second of four children born to the late Calvin and Mary (Thompson) McFarlin, both of Roanoke, AL.
Larry attended Alabama A&M University, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. After graduating in 1974, he went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force for more than 20 years, where he earned numerous awards commending his achievements. Following his retirement in 1996, his commitment to providing for his family led him to start his own business, which offered Collections and Claims support to the 72nd Medical Group. While he enjoyed his Military and post-retirement career, he was most passionate about the job he began working in 1988 at the Tinker Air Force Base Youth Center. For over 27 years, Larry's warm smile, work ethic, and commitment to serving others would allow him to impact the lives of countless military youth. "Mr. Larry" was a consistent and positive presence at the Youth Center, and will truly be missed by the many people who will always remember the passion he brought to his work.
Besides his wife Vera, Larry is survived by his sons Larry and Brian, his daughter Tiffany, his 5 grandchildren - Isaiah, Layla, Lena, Warren, and Lauryn, daughters-in-law Monica McFarlin and Lea McFarlin, as well as his siblings Hayward McFarlin, Mary Lee Sanders, and Helen Woodyard.
