It is with deep love and gratitude for a life well lived that the Johnson family announces the passing of their matriarch, Lily Patricia Johnson, age 92. Known affectionately as “Liverpool Lil,” she brought warmth, humor, and a spark of joy to all who knew her.
Born in Liverpool, England, Lily carried the resilient spirit of her hometown throughout her life. As a young girl, she endured the bombing of Liverpool during World War II and was evacuated to Wales for safety—experiences that shaped her strength and determination. That same resilience carried her through many chapters of life, including surviving a rare form of leukemia, COVID, and ongoing health challenges, always meeting each with grit and a touch of humor. In 1955, she journeyed across the pond, as they say in England, to the United States to marry, begin her family, and become a proud American citizen. It was the start of a new chapter defined by courage, hope, and opportunity.
Family was the heart of Lily’s world. She had three children, Janis, Scott, and Jim, and shared a devoted marriage with Robert Lee “Bob” Johnson. She was a cherished mother-in-law to Lena Johnson, whose care and support meant so much over the years, along with Scott’s devoted help. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) and Robert (Jessica) who held a special place in her heart, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by extended family in Liverpool, including her brother John Roberts, along with many nieces and nephews, and by Jim’s family, including his wife Susan and their daughters in Las Vegas.
Lily gave generously of her time to others. She volunteered with the Red Cross, the Air Force NCO Wives Club, and the PTA, and served as an elementary school reading tutor, touching young lives with patience and encouragement. Her well-kept home was a place of comfort, where meals were shared, stories were told, and laughter was always close at hand. Lily was known for her quick wit, her love of storytelling, and her uncanny ability to find laughter in even the simplest moments. A well-timed joke or cheeky remark was never far behind, and she had a way of making ordinary days feel brighter.
Though she has left this world, the echo of her laughter and the strength of her love remain. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her life reminds us to treasure family, embrace humor, and carry a bit of light wherever we go.
Lily now reunites with her beloved husband, Bob, who passed in 2004. Together, they will be interred in the Veterans section of the Sunny Lane Cemetery in Oklahoma City—a fitting resting place for a love that endures beyond time.
