

Maye Louise Pound, beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend died December 8, 2011, at SW Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City. She will forever be loved and missed by her husband, sons, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Louise was born April 19, 1928, in Wichita Falls, TX, to Powell and Cora East. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1936 and graduated from Classen High School in May 1946. On June 30, 1946, she married Orville Lee Pound in Gracemont, OK. They made Oklahoma City their home for the next 65 years. They reared four children Ann Louise, Peggy Lee, Robert Charles, and Steven Michael in a loving, Christian home. While being a devoted mother, she served as PTA president at Fillmore Elementary School and taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School. She also served as a precinct inspector at Fillmore during elections. She was a volunteer at Southminister Presbyterian Church in an afterschool program to tutor children and became a lifelong mentor to Shirley Leftwich. Following her dream to attend college, Louise graduated from the OSU Tech nursing program as a registered nurse in May 1975. She spent her entire career at Mercy Hospital and retired as the night nursing supervisor in 1994. Louise was an avid reader and worked at least one crossword puzzle a day in ink. She and her husband Orville shared an appreciation for the outdoors. Family camping trips were enjoyed when the children were growing up. In the later years, Louise and Orville explored the USA with their travel trailer before parking it at Lake Shawnee. There, Louise liked to sit in her swing, watch the birds, and ride around the lake in the golf cart while Orville drove. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George Vivier, and granddaughter Amy Riley. She is survived by her husband Orville; daughters Ann and husband Phil Bandy of Ponca City, OK, and Peggy and husband Mike Willis of Blanchard, OK; sons Robert Pound of Tuttle, OK, and Steve and wife Denise Pound of Everett, WA. Other survivors include grandchildren Brooke Gehm of McKinney, TX; Blake Bandy of Dallas, TX; Amber Davis, Japan; Shavon Cox of Oklahoma City; Jason Riley of Midwest City, OK; Tiffani Harrison of Oklahoma City; Johnny Workman, Jr. of Bridgecreek, OK; Dustin Workman of Moore, OK; Tara Moravek of Lynnwood, WA, and Tyler Pound of Everett, WA. Great grandchildren are Avery and Abby Claire Gehm of McKinney, TX; Grant Davis, Japan, and Daylon and Dilon Cox of Oklahoma City; Ethan Workman of Moore, OK; Baylee and Payton Harrison of Oklahoma City, and Garret Workman of Bridgecreek, OK. Also surviving is sister Margaret “Kitty” East of Oklahoma City. Private burial will be held December 13, at 11 am at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City, followed by a memorial service and celebration of Louise’s life at 2 pm at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 3416 S Western, Oklahoma City. Casket bearers are Robert Pound, Steve Pound, Phil Bandy, Mike Willis, Mike Cox, and Louis Gehm. Honorary casket bearers are Blake Bandy, Jay Hamilton, Courtney Browning, Bob Strickland, Bob Jett, and Paul Ninley. Memorial contributions may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
