

Merle Calvin Smith died Monday, July 12, 2010 in Norman, OK. Merle was born March 19, 1925 in Poteau, OK, to Merle James and Icie (Gibson) Smith. He graduated from Poteau High School and attended Poteau Junior College. During WWII he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with the Army Air Force. After the war he served in the Oklahoma National Guard. Merle has lived in the Oklahoma City area for the past forty years and was a member of the Del City Planning Commission. He was a member of the VFW and DAV. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ted Smith. Survivors include his wife, Jean; sons: Robert Smith and Michael Davis; daughters: Janis Priest, Barbara Walker and Jaquita Brashier; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. His graveside service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 16, 2010 at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
