Norman Daniel Detar

Norman Daniel Detar, 87, passed away October 28, 2021 in his Del City home, surrounded by his family. Norman was born June 10, 1934 in McKeesport, PA to Chester Daniel and Ruby Agnes Detar. As a young boy his family relocated to Elyria, OH where he grew up until he enlisted in the US Navy in 1951. He served for three years in the Korean Theater aboard the USS Daly(DD-519) and the USS Oriskany(CV-34). After leaving the Navy he returned to Ohio where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Audrey Kerlin, they were married on July 2, 1955. Norman worked for many years as a machinist in Ohio and then in Oklahoma when the family relocated here in 1973. Norman retired from Sears Roebuck as a small engine mechanic and field service technician. Norman and Carolyn have been members of St. Paul the Apostle, Catholic Church in Del City for 45 years. He believed in helping those in need which lead to Norman and Carolyn volunteering their time with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for many years, helping countless individuals in need. Norman loved working in the yard, always making sure his home looked beautiful. He was preceded in death by his Parents, his sister Patricia Irene Jones and a half-brother Leslie Daniel Detar. He is survived by his lovely wife Carolyn and their children; Brian and wife Kathy, Norman, OK; Kathy and husband Terry Crosswhite, Carriere, MS; Claudia and husband Jerry McDonald, Oklahoma City; Christopher and wife Neva, Tishamingo, OK; Michael Detar, Del City, OK; Carol Cornelison, Oklahoma City. Norman was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the Traditions Health Hospice Care nursing staff for the care and support they provided. Viewing will be Sunday October 31, 2021 from 6:00 to 7:00pm at Sunnylane Funeral Home in Del City. A funeral mass will be held Monday November 1, 2021 at 2:00pm at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Del City. "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race.
