

Peggy Roark Summers, age 88, of Del City, OK passed away on July 13th, 2016. She was born July 3rd, 1928 to the union of M.L. Jack and Lester Tomlin Roark in Coalgate, OK and was the youngest of six sisters.
She attended school at Mowdy and graduated from Coalgate High School. She then went on to study education at East Central College in Ada, OK. Her passion in life was teaching. Her favorite part of teaching was teaching young children to read and instilling a love of reading in them. She taught for 30 years. She started her career in Ashland, OK and taught there for three years. She taught the rest of her career in the Midwest City-Del City School District. Peggy retired from Epperly Heights Elementary in 1985. On September 27th, 1952, Peggy married Gerald who was the love of her life and they were married for 63 years.
She was a faithful member of the Del City Church of Christ. Peggy was an avid reader and loved to study the Bible daily. She loved to help people, usually behind the scenes. If she saw a need in anyone around her, she stepped in to help in any way that she could. She loved her pets especially her poodles, Annie and Maddie. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family. She adored her only grandchild, Lauren and a very special great-great-nephew Kale Brister.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Summers; her son, Jerry and wife Susan; four sisters, Pauline Henderson, Rowena Henderson, Velma Love, and Helen Wiemers; and five brothers-in-law, Ira Henderson, Newt Henderson, Frank Love, and Ben Wiemers. She is survived by her daughter Janet Gilliam and husband Milton, of Oklahoma City; granddaughter Lauren Gilliam, of Oklahoma City; a sister, Jacqueline Helms, of Coalgate, OK; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving guests on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bill Eisenhour Southeast. Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m., Tuesday, July 19th, 2016 in the chapel of Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
