Rickey Clyde Stinnett, 67, passed away on February 14, 2016 at his home in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Rick was born on February 22, 1948 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Roy Clyde and Lorene (Hubbard) Stinnett.
He graduated from Midwest City High School in 1966, and after attending UCO for one year he enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country in the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, an Air Medal, and an Army Commendation Medal with Valor among other commendations for his heroism and outstanding service. He was honorably discharged in 1972. After his military service, he worked at various trades until deciding upon a career as an aircraft mechanic with the Federal Aviation Administration from which he retired.
Rick was a creative, talented man who had a passion for life and enjoyed many pastimes. He was an expert at the game of pool and at one time was ranked the number one pool player in Oklahoma. He was an avid fisherman who loved being on a lake with his friends, drinking a few beers, and celebrating a fresh catch. He was a gifted poet, an antique expert, a master upholsterer, a gourmet cook, a skilled gardener, a great roller-skater, and a damn fine whistler. There was nothing he put his mind to at which he did not excel. He was a character who had character and he will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved Chow, Hercules “Herky”; and his closest childhood friend, Jimmy Guffey, who did not survive the Vietnam War and whose death Rick mourned deeply all his life. Survivors include his daughter, April “Kemi” McCormick and husband, Preston; grandson, Oscar McCormick; sister, Joy Barnes; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and neighbors who loved him dearly.
A memorial service for Rick will be held at a later date. For more information on the service, you may contact Rick’s daughter, Kemi at 970-581-0459. Condolences may be offered at www.eisenhourfuneral.com
