

Rufus went to live with his beloved Lord on December 7, 2011 with whom he enjoyed serving with his wife, Bertha of ten years at Rockwood Indian Baptist Fellowship in Oklahoma City. Rufus was baptized there on October 2, 2011 and he was extremely pleased about his baptism certificate. He and Bertha made many wonderful memories together. Preceding him in death are his parents, Josiah and Annie Mae Amos of Oklahoma City. Rufus had one son, Rufus Thomas Amos, Jr. known as Tommy, whom he loved very much. Tommy’s wife is Elizabeth. They have Rufus two grandchildren, Nathan and Rufus Thomas Amos, III, known as Trey. Trey has two children Emily and Morgan. Tommy’s family is from Oklahoma City. He left behind a step-daughter, Juanetta Amos, also of Oklahoma City. He had three sisters; Dorothy and her husband, Pete Fish of Pawhuska, Louise Walker of Norman and her special friend Bob, and Naomi Pacheco of Tulsa. Rufus had one brother, Truman Anthony Amos also of Oklahoma City. He also had a step-grandson, ndn-way Checotah Powless which both enjoyed each other’s company whether it was watching TV of fishing together. His nieces and nephews were Tracy Cannady, Norman, and Jackie Ballard from Santa Fe, Mexico. He loved his little cousins, Kendall and Cody (Buffalo) and enjoyed spending time with them. He has many good friends and his two special friends were Ray Thompson and his late friends, David Stansberry. He attended Goodlin Indian Boarding School and Central High School. Rufus served our county in the United States Army and belonged to the 45th Infantry, known as Hells on Wheels. He was very proud to be a member of the Choctaw Nation. He loved going to Tuskahoma to the Choctaw Fair and Choctaw Alliance. When Rufus became sick, he would often say, “I am going to join Mom and Dad at the table” and we are certain he is there enjoying banaha and fry bread with them, which were his favorite foods. He also enjoyed T-bone steak, catfish, going fishing and camping.
