Stephen Philip Jones was born to his proud parents Philip Gerald Jones and Shanna Lorriane Cherry Jones on May 12, 1993 in Fort Worth, TX and went home to be with the Lord in Lake Worth, Florida on September 27, 2016 at the age of 23. Stephen’s best friend was his sister Karyn Jones. As best friends they shared everything with each other.
Stephen had a fun loving personality that brought so much laughter and love to his family and friends. He never missed an opportunity to tell his family that he loved them. He ended every phone conversation with “I love you” and he never left the house without giving a hug and an “I love you” to his family.
He enjoyed lifting weights and body building. He was able to bench press more than 350 pounds and leg press more than 750 pounds. At the YMCA, he once lifted every plate on the weight stack. He enjoyed playing video games with his friends. He could be heard in moments of victory hitting the Staples “easy button” in his victory celebration.
He attended Townsend Elementary School, Kerr Junior High, and graduated from his Homeschool Program and Destiny Christian School. He played football in junior high and high school. His family remembered watching him drag 4 tacklers on his back while he ran the football down the field. He enjoyed hunting with his dad and shooting guns.
He loved being a part of the Sunnylane youth group. He faithfully attended Wednesday night youth meetings, mission trips to New York, New Orleans, Arlington, and Oklahoma City. He spent many summers attending Falls Creek Youth Camp, Super Summers Camps, and other church related activities. He served as a mentor to many youth boys, encouraging them in their walk with the Lord. With his humble spirit he made sure that the younger youth boys felt that they were a part of the group. His devotion to his beliefs in God could be seen in his daily walk.
He participated in his Church’s Easter drama playing the character of a Roman Soldier. A role that he took seriously. There are funny memories of him chasing down Jewish criminals and tackling them in the production.
He had a special love and devotion for his mom. Even as a full grown man, he would come in and sit on his mom’s lap, hug her, and tell her that he loved her. He would call her often and send texts and pictures of his life. Stephen was given the name “Budman” by his dad when he was little, describing the fact that they were buddies and inseparable. Karyn will forever cherish “her bubby” as her best friend and the moments they shared laughing and talking in their bedrooms.
He is survived today by parents Philip and Shanna Jones of Del City, OK; his sister and best friend Karyn Jones of MWC, OK; grandparents Bob and Kay Cherry of Red Oak, OK, Peggy and Jack Osborn of Park Hill, OK; His Aunt and Uncle Shelia and Joe Queen of Heavener OK, Uncle and Aunt Tim and Stacy Jones of Hodgen, OK, and Uncle and Aunt Lance and Kelly Cherry of Sherman, TX; girlfriend Delaney Hannah of Orlando, FL, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Sunnylane Southern Baptist Church.
