Steven Dale Norris was born December 29th, 1950 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Star Spencer High School and later attended Oklahoma University where he became an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan.
Steve began working at Northwest Transformer in the early 80’s until deciding to pursue his lifelong dream of opening a Sports Cards Store named “Steve’s Cards and Comics” in Midwest City, Oklahoma. This was his passion and no one was kinder to their customers than Steve was. He loved the shop with all his heart and it pained him to close the shop but he went full force into the next stage of his life; assistant teaching. Smart enough to be a college professor, Steve loved the time spent teaching, coaching, and mentoring young children.
We have all heard the stories of how my mother and father met but for those who haven’t let me fill you in. Wall’s Bargain Center in Del City was the place and Steve was an Assistant Manager. He used to spend time up in the rafters of the store watching for shoplifters. But that is not the only thing he was watching. He also had his eye on a beautiful young girl named Donna Sue Benson. Persistence was the key for Steve, for he failed several times before finally winning her heart. But once he had it he never let her go. As a matter of fact, even through his last few days he would not let anyone take off his wedding ring.
Family was everything to Steven Dale Norris. Every day after coming home from school, his children were met with a warm smile and a pat on the back. Steve always wanted to know how the day went and what we learned about. Tracie Lynn Norris was born June 7th, 1975 at the Oklahoma University Medical Center. The Father/Daughter bond was very apparent between Tracie and Steven and nothing lightened his mood like seeing his baby girl. Tracie lives in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Steve and Donna had a second and final daughter on October 12th, 1976 named Kerrie Dawn Norris. Kerrie died three and a half years later and is buried at Sunnylane Cemetery, in Del City, Oklahoma.
Steve always wanted to have boys and after two girls he didn’t stop. His first son was born on March, 2nd 1981 and named William Dale Norris. William currently resides in Fayetteville, North Carolina with his wife Laura Norris. Their second son, Johnathan Ray Norris was born on June 23rd, 1982 and currently resides in Yukon, Oklahoma with his wife Jessica Marie Norris. The baby of the family, Richard Alan Norris was born on October 2nd, 1985. Richard currently resides in Midwest City, Oklahoma with his girlfriend, Brittney Arnold.
Besides his beautiful wife Donna and his four children, Steven is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Adam, John, Kaitlin, Jordan, Rikki, Jaylyn, Jaidyn, Devyn, Danny, and Logan. He was also looking forward to meeting his unborn grand-daughter due in February. Steve loved his grandchildren very much and many of our memories are of Dad laughing and playing with the grandkids.
Everyone who met Steve knew of his kindness and generosity. His loyalty to his family and to the Oklahoma Sooners will be greatly missed. We were all very lucky to have known such a wonderful and caring man.
