Born September 17 1937~Died November 21 2023
Sue Ann was born to William McKinley Burkhart and Georgia Mae Burkhart in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She and her family relocated to Del City in 1947 where she remained for the rest of her life. Sue Ann was a member of the first graduating class from Del City High School in 1955. Her first job was as a baker working at Continental Bakery in Oklahoma City followed by stints at John A Brown and First National Bank’s downtown branch. During the 1970’s Sue Ann worked in the Mid-Del School system cafeterias serving food to elementary school children for close to a decade. Sue Ann finished her working career as an Executive Assistant for the State Department of Human Services for 20 years and retired in 2001. Sue Ann made lifelong friendships with many of her co-workers.
Sue Ann was known as an avid cat lover. No cat was turned away from her house for almost 50 years. Sue Ann was known for an extremely kind heart and generous to everyone she met. Her most famous/infamous trait was a wonderful sense of humor and sharp wit. Her favorite television shows were British comedies on OETA. Keeping Up Appearances was a cherished favorite.
During the holidays, Sue Ann was also famous for her unparalleled skill as a baker that she gained early in her working career. Her banana and pumpkin bread were anticipated each holiday season and greeted with great fanfare when she passed out loaves to family and friends.
If Sue Ann counted you as a friend, you were a friend for life. If you were a cat, you were adopted. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
God called Sue Ann home on November 21, 2023. I think he wants some good brownies and someone to look after his cats.
