

Vernon William Meyer, age 73 of Del City, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015. He was born February 23, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the son of Vernon Michael Meyer and Arline Gweneth Meyer (Zijack). He graduated from Southwest HS in St Louis, Missouri and attended DeVry Technical Institute for 2 years. In 1962 he joined the US Air Force, devoting the next 20 years of his life to working in wideband communications. While stationed overseas in Germany, he met the beautiful Ursula Huchel and was immediately smitten. They were married in 1964 at St. Josef Catholic Church in Obernkirchen, Germany. Vernon served 14 years in Europe and multiple locations stateside before retiring in Del City, Oklahoma. He began his second career working as a preventive maintenance technician at the Midwest City Sears store for the next 20+ years, and part time at Midwest Trophy helping to lock up the facility in the evenings. He also enjoyed his stint as “Mr. Fix-It” doing multiple handy-man jobs for anyone that needed help.
Vernon discovered the joy of Volksmarching while in Europe. The family joined the Oklahoma City walking club, Wandergruppe in 1983, and he spent many years enjoying the walks and events with family and friends. He loved walking along the trails of Oklahoma state parks and multiple other walk locations.
Vernon was very active for many years at his church in Del City, St Paul the Apostle. He was an active member of the Mens Group and Parish Council, as well as an usher, lector, communion minister, money counter and choir. He loved his parish and all the people in it. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Ursula Meyer of the home in Del City; sister, Penny McDonald and husband Michael of Lawrence, KS; daughter Marnie Rummell-Meyer and husband Benny of OKC; daughter Kirsten Stalford and husband Brian of Midwest City; grandchildren Jakob Rummell, Markus Rummell, Tyler Stalford and Sydney Stalford; and great grandson Hunter Brisboe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St Paul Memorial or Bldg funds.
