Violet “Vi” Sara Ann Woods died on April 22, 2014 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born August 22, 1922 (at home) in Harrah, Oklahoma to Samuel H. Harris and Carrie Sledge. Vi was the ninth of ten children born to Samuel and Carrie. She graduated from Choctaw High School, where she met the love of her live Robert “Bob” Woods. They were married in 1940 and had two children. Violet spent over fifty years as a resident of Del City. She began her long career at Tinker Air Field in 1943 as a Key Punch Operator, Military Control Clerk and Machine Accounting Clerk. For a short time she worked at the naval Ammunition Depot in McAlester and later in the Accounting Department of the Daily Oklahoman. Returning to Tinker she was a Technical Data Specialist in Material Management Service Division and retired after twenty-two years of Federal Service.
Vi loved living, she loved her church of more than fifty years, she loved her family, especially those granddaughters and great-grandsons. Vi loved working church bazaars, craft shows, ballroom dancing, cooking, working with the Oklahoma Gem Club and being an over fifty year member of Beta Sigma Phi. The hardest time for her was when she reached the age where she started losing loved ones, both family and friends. Life for her was being Active-Enjoying Each Day- and Loving Whatever She was doing.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Carrie; six brothers, Charles, Clyde, Grayson, Buford, Ellie, Tommy, three sisters, Ruby, Thelma and Eva; her husband, Bob Woods; son, Ricky L. Woods; and son-in-law Donald Heimbach. She is survived by daughter Bobbie Ann Heimbach, granddaughters Shawn and husband Chris Barnes, and Tosha Loeffler; great grandsons Dylan Cooper and Justin Homan, all of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law Edith Miksell of McAlester, numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends and extended family members who shared her journey with her. The family would also like to thank the staff at Bellevue Nursing Center for the seven plus years of care and compassion shown to our MeMe. We never had to worry about her care and were appreciate that so much. We want to thank Centennial Hospice for their tender love and care. We also appreciate the cards and visits from the Care Group at Sunny Lane United Methodist Church.
Services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at Sunny Lane United Methodist Church with family burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Sunny Lane United Methodist Church, Del City, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
