Geraldine Renard Rogers Benoit, our sweet and dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, gently closed her eyes to this earthly life on Thursday, September 14 and entered into her eternal glory. At her passing she was 84. Geraldine was born April 26, 1939 in rural Vermilion Parish to the late Junius Renard and the late Etta Landry Renard and was one of seven children born to that union.
Gerry, as she was affectionately known, was retired from the Iberia Parish School Board having been a cook at Delcambre Elementary. Outside of her work, Gerry loved spending time enjoying nature and tending to her yard. Her grandchildren loved the time spent with their grandmother, especially the golf cart rides to the levee. Her children remembered how much Gerry loved dancing. So many memories were made dancing to her favorite Cajun music at Smiley’s and Cajun Cayenne. Above all, her life was at its best when surrounded by the ones she loved most, her family. Although we will miss her, her memory will live on in our hearts and thoughts, and we will one day be reunited with her. Until that precious time, rest well. We love you.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Monica Rogers Crappell (Glenn), Carl Rogers (Stephanie Lege), Clayton Jean “Tuna” Rogers, II (Laura) and Chad Rogers (Christine); her grandchildren, Shandi Crappell, Caymen Crappell (Kacie), Chelsie Rogers Domingue (Nick), Paige Rogers, Dawson Rogers, Monty Rogers (Madison), McCall Rogers and Hudson Rogers; two great grandchildren, Brylon Bellott and Lillian Domingue; and her brothers and sisters, Paul “Famon” Renard (Kay), Raymond Renard, Earline LeBlanc (Arnold), Edward Lee Renard, Edwin Renard (Judy) and Brenda Miguez,
Along with her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Benoit; her former spouse and father to her children, Gene Rogers; sister-in-law, Jane Renard; and brother-in-law, Douglas Miguez.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Gerry’s life will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Fr. Buddy Breaux will be the celebrant. Following the mass, Gerry will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Lake Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with the Rosary being prayed at 6:00 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 10:45 am dismissal to church.
