It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rita Merline Geoffroy Comeaux, who passed away peacefully Saturday, August 23, 2025, just seven days after celebrating her 93rd birthday.
Merline, as she was affectionately known, was born August 17, 1932, in Delcambre to the late Francis Geoffroy and the late Elonide Broussard Geoffroy. Raised in a family steeped in Cajun heritage, she carried those traditions proudly throughout her life. A 1951 graduate of Delcambre High School, she briefly worked as a bookkeeper for Tibby Rouse Supply before meeting the love of her life, Junius J. Comeaux. The two were married on June 10, 1956, and soon after began their greatest journey—raising their three children, Clint, Lisa, and Joey.
A devoted wife and homemaker, Merline dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was an exceptional cook who loved preparing meals that brought everyone together. Many of her recipes came from cherished family traditions or from the collection of cookbooks she treasured. When not in the kitchen, Merline could often be found tending to her flower beds, which she cultivated with pride and joy.
Merline also enjoyed camping, fishing, and the occasional casino trip with Junius and their family and friends. Together, she and Junius traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada and shared countless days casting a fishing line in hopes of catching supper. These moments created a lifetime of treasured memories she carried close to her heart.
Although we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she is not gone from us, only gone ahead of us, and that one day we will be reunited in Heaven. Until that precious day, rest well, Merline. We love you.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Clint Comeaux and wife Darla, and Lisa Comeaux Lopez and husband Tommy; her five grandchildren, Mallory Comeaux, Sky Comeaux, Marina Comeaux, Joshua Comeaux and wife Autumn, and Jacob Comeaux; and her two great-grandchildren, Mila Comeaux and Aubrie Ourso.
Along with her parents, Merline is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Junius J. Comeaux; her son, Joey Comeaux; and her sister, Ethel Lou Geoffroy Doré.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Merline’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Delcambre, with Rev. Buddy Breaux as celebrant. Following the mass, Merline will be laid to rest in the church cemetery alongside her husband, parents and sister.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass, with the Rosary being recited at 9:00 a.m.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Sky Comeaux, Joshua Comeaux, Jacob Comeaux, Tommy Lopez, Chris Bayard and Clint Comeaux.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, as well as to the staff of Consolata Nursing Home and Southern Grace Hospice, for the kindness and compassion shown to Merline.
