It is with great sorrow and deep love that the Luquette family announces the passing of our beloved matriarch, Teresa Dale Schlicher Luquette, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend. Teresa passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 71.
Teresa Dale was born on December 13, 1954, in Kinder, Louisiana, to the late Hardy Schlicher and Emmadel Quinn Schlicher. During her early years, the family moved frequently while following her father’s oilfield career, eventually settling in Acadiana. From a very young age, Teresa was taught the values of hard work, honesty, and compassion for others—principles she carried with her throughout her life.
She was a loving wife to George Luquette and a proud, devoted mother to her three children, Jason, Shella, and Keith. Her heart only grew larger as her family expanded to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply.
Teresa and George raised their family on Avery Island, where she dedicated over 40 years of service before retiring from McIlhenny Company. Throughout her life, Teresa opened both her home and her heart to anyone in need. Her children often shared that they never remembered a time when the door to their home was locked.
Family gatherings were a cornerstone of Teresa’s life, especially during Christmas. She went all out each year—complete with Santa Claus himself—handing out gifts and taking photos with family members young and old. And let's not forget Grandma Dales' famous Christmas "green drink" that brought a smile to her grandkids face and made everyone feel just that much more special. Teresa also delighted in themed parties, often side-by-side with her twin sister and best friend, Beverly, dressed to perfection and frequently stealing the show. And when her favorite singer, Patsy Cline, came on, everyone knew it was time to get busy and help clean the house—a memory that continues to bring smiles and laughter.
True to her love of family, Teresa made it her life’s mission to spend as much time with them as possible. She accompanied George in his work and could diagnose an engine’s problem just by listening to it run. As part of a family that raised animals, she took part in many boucherie gatherings and was well-known for making fresh hog cracklins. Teresa had a deep passion for the outdoors, and as her family fondly recalled, home was simply a place to rest and prepare for the next adventure. Weekends were often spent at the family camp in the marsh, soaking in nature’s beauty and the peace of the outdoors.
Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void in our lives, we find comfort in knowing Teresa is now at peace in heaven, reunited with those who went before her. We look forward to the day we will be by her side again.
Rest well, Teresa Dale. You are deeply loved and will be forever missed.
Survivors include her children, Jason P. Luquette (Paige), Keith J. Luquette, and Shella Luquette Derouen (Brad); her grandchildren whom she adored, Ashley Ransonet (Luke), Kylie Derouen (Brandon), Kelsey Frederick (Micah), Alexis Clement (CJ), Gabrielle Simon, Nyla Guidry, Keygan Luquette, Emma Derouen, and Nevaeh Derouen; her eight great-grandchildren, Landyn, Sawyer, Atlas, Lexi, Kinzlee, Kyzer, Leighton, and Logan; and her siblings, Beverly Gale Duhon (her twin sister and absolute best friend), Robert Wayne Schlicher, and Gina Frances Renard.
