Helen was the loving daughter of Robert Goldstein who died in 1977 and Lillian Harwitz Goldstein who died in 2009. She was born July 7, 1944 in Brooklyn and died January 16, 2026 in Delray Beach, Florida at the age of 81. She enjoyed 25 years of marriage to her husband and best friend Jerry Post, who died in 2021.
Helen lived her early years in Bayside and attended Van Buren High School, graduating in 1962. Upon graduation she joined NYNEX, the telephone company, receiving many promotions and achievement awards during her 29 years of service. Helen was always an exceptionally cheerful and friendly person, she made many friends at work and in her personal life; many of these friendships were long-lasting, continuing right up to the time of her death. All these friends cannot be named here but among the most cherished include Doreen Silverman, Mary Horbot, Nancy Criscenti, Larry Levy, and her cousin Jane (Helen always called her Janey) Rothman with whom she had a very close sister-like relationship. Helen was known as a gracious hostess and a devoted, loyal person who always ‘had your back.’ She will be greatly missed.
Jerry was the love of Helen’s life. They enjoyed many cruises together and loved to dance before the onset of MS slowed Helen down. As Helen liked to say, “I had MS but it didn’t have me.” Helen enjoyed the companionship of her beloved dogs, Muffy, Lucky, and Penni and parakeets Chippy and Wendy. Helen was eternally grateful for the compassionate care and friendship of her long-time aide and “daughter” Amanda Murray. Helen loved meeting new people, talking about old times, reading mystery, crime, and romance novels, watching home renovation programs on TV, snacking on Mallomars and Carvel Flying Saucers, and laughing at the Las Vegas gambling and Jewish Mafia stories recounted by her High Point neighbor Bob Moscowitz, a former dealer and pit boss. This gruff-appearing, but soft-hearted guy,. tattooed from head to foot, had a special affection for Helen and Penni, he would try to embarass Helen with his tough-guy dirty language but he could not make this New York City girl blush.
Survivors include Helen's adopted son Robert Post who loved her dearly and his wife Donna; Ronnie and Greta Post; Lauren Post, David Post and family; Ilana Post and family; Barbara, Marilyn and Dr Fred Harris and family; Joel and Evvy Harris, Jane Rothman and Max Humphreys; Tara and Brian Martin; Jay, Mary and Andy Balzer; and Ellen and Paul Boehm and their family.
Helen's entombment alongside husband Jerry and Helen's parents was on January 27, 2026 at the Abraham and Sarah Mausoleum at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey.
As youngsters, Helen and I (cousin Jay Balzer related on her father's side) connected each year as her family joined our family for the Passover seder at our home where my father, Al, led the service. We saw less of each other in the following years as we pursued our separate careers, our marriages, and we lived far apart. However as we became older and more appreciative of our family connections we bonded more closely and it has been an honor to have helped Helen towards the end of her life and to prepare this obituary. Please feel free to express your memories and love of Helen by posting comments on the funeral home website. I can be reached at [email protected] with any questions you have or if you just want to arrange a time to talk.
