She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt, confidant, mentor, teacher, friend, guide, inspiration, and a soul both deeply loved and profoundly loving.
Janet was born March 21, 1945 in Seattle, Washington, to John Randall Walker and Margaret Ann Reed, Papa John and Mickey to all who loved them. She was a WWII baby, and as soon as John came back from the Aleutians, he brought Mickey and his daughter down to his home in Miami, Florida. In Miami, Janet became a big sister to Merrilee, Kathleen, and Susan. She was involved in everything and knew everyone.
She graduated from Miami Dade Community College and then FIU, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She earned her master’s degree from Brown University before embarking on a lifelong career as a psychotherapist and family counselor. She became very active as an energy worker and both teacher and practitioner in Body Talk. Janet was a Miami resident until July of 2022, when she moved to Paisley, Florida, with her middle school sweetheart and then-husband, the love of her life, Tom Holmes. After Tom’s passing in March of 2024, she moved to Delray Beach to be closer to family. She is survived by her sisters Kathleen and Susan, her brothers-in-law Larry and Raymond, her nieces and nephews Chahine, Jacob, Eric, Kristen, Brian, and Rachel, her great nieces and nephews Sierra, Reed, Alex, Cody, Brielle, Sydney, Walker, Siena, and Benjamin, a great-great nephew Liam, and too many friends and found family members to count.
She was always a trailblazer, unafraid to forge her own path, and she left us in the same fashion: unexpectedly, suddenly, but while at peace with herself and the world. Janet was a woman of wide-ranging talents and passions, a world-traveler and a lover of art, music, culture, literature, and people. The human beings she touched, healed, inspired, and loved are beyond measure.
