

Steven was born on September 17, 1952, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Robert Roy Gray and Kathleen (McCully) Mertz.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Clark) Gray; his children, Patrick Gray (fiancée Dana), Brendan Gray (Pamela), Abby Gray, and Lacy (Gray) Montoya (Jake); and his stepchildren, Victoria Foster (Matt), Thomas Verhoy (Erika), Julius Verhoy (Julia) and John Verhoy (Chelsea). He is also survived by his former wives, Denise (Richards) Gray and Connie (Persons) Poynter. Steven was a proud grandfather to Matthew Gray and Emma Gray, and he is further survived by many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren,extended family members, and dear friends.
He is also survived by his siblings: Rebecca (Gray) Lentner (Paul), Calvin Gray (Margaret), Rachel (Gray) Bullard (Brian), and Nan (Gray) Lee (Robert).
Steven was preceded in death by his son, Michael Gray, as well as his Father Robert Gray, and Stepfather Lauren Mertz.
Steven graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1970, and went on to attend Central Michigan University, where he earned a degree in Business Management.
He built a strong and diverse career over the years. He began as a general manager for Wendy’s restaurants and franchises, later owning and operating a Sears Catalog Store followed by a Trustworthy Hardware Store and Farm Center. He concluded his career serving as the Supervisor of Building Maintenance for Newaygo County, Michigan, retiring in September 2020. Shortly thereafter, he and Linda relocated to Delray Beach, Florida to enjoy retirement.
Steven was deeply committed to his community and gave generously of his time throughout his life. He volunteered countless hours with the Boy Scouts of America, serving with the Lake Huron Area Council, Camp Rotary, the Gerald R. Ford Council, and Gerber Scout Camp. He was also involved with the NCCT Construction Trades Advisory Board and served on the City Council, White Cloud High School, bands, and athletic boosters.
He was a member of the Saginaw Elks Lodge #47, where he honorably served as Exalted Ruler, and was also an active member of the White Cloud Lions Club. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a dedicated member and volunteer at Christ Lutheran Church in White Cloud, Michigan and later Son Life Lutheran Church in Boynton Beach, Florida. He also served on the board of Saxony Condominium Association at Kings Point.
Steven will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his commitment to service, and most importantly, his love for his family. He cherished time spent with family and friends and leaves behind a legacy of dedication, generosity, and faith.
