

Dan was born in Jackson, Mississippi on November 19, 1923 to Daniel Jackson Mooney, Sr. and Ruby Elnora Dennis Mooney.
He married Roi F. Russell in Brandon, Mississippi on March 28, 1945. They had been married for 57 years when she preceded him in death.
Dan enlisted in the Navy in the Navy in 1942 after attending public schools in Brandon, Mississippi and was on-board the USS Grayson during WWII. He remained in contact with his shipmates and attended annual reunions up until his death. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1948, where his focus was on electronics. After honorable discharge from the Air Force, Dan began his civilian career as an electronics technician and started his own business, Mooney Electronics, in Gulfport, Miss. He relocated his family to Denison, Texas in the 1960s.
Mr. Mooney is survived by his five children: Sandie Petitfils of Brookhaven, Miss., Karen Burling of Bossier City, La., Beth Mooney of Denison, Dan Mooney of New Iberia, La.And Melissa Sexson of Plano, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Mooney served on the Denison City Council over two decades, beginning in 1982. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was also a Mason and belonged to Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was also an Eagle Scout and a lifetime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held at Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas on Saturday, August 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The family will attend a private burial at Fairview Cemetery in Denison.
