

Fred was born May 29, 1930 in Davis Hollow, West Virginia; son of Lewis Walker and Roena Virginia Toney. He grew up in the mountains of Fayette County West Virginia with 8 siblings where they enjoyed hunting, farming and playing music.
At the age of 21 he joined the Air Force. While stationed in Denison TX, he met the love of his life, Shirley Vesta Amos. They were married on November 18th, 1955. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1971. During his career with the Air Force, he served during the Vietnam and Korean War, was stationed around the world, and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. He also received the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. After retiring with an honorable discharge, Fred and his family moved back to Denison, TX where he worked at Denison ISD until he retired in 1991. He also worked as a contract painter during his career at Denison ISD and after his retirement. Fred and Shirley were members at Parkside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and she sang in the choir. After retirement they moved to Tin Top, Texas where Fred enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching wildlife and being with his family.
Fred was a loyal and faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a gentle, hardworking man who loved Jesus, his wife, his family and his country. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by a brother, John “Ferd” Toney; wife, Shirley Vesta Toney, son Freddie Toney and wife Coni, and daughter Ginger Toney Arnove and husband Dean, Grandchildren; Skyler Toney and wife Amy, Sierra Toney, Cody Arnove, Kelsey Arnove and great granddaughter Avery Toney.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 1:00 – 2:00 followed by the funeral service at 2:30 with Pastor Delbert Vest officiating. Burial will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation and funeral service will be at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 West Woodard, Denison, TX.
