
Funeral services will be at 10 am, Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Chapel on the Hill, Cedarlawn Memorial Park, 5805 Texoma Parkway, Sherman, TX 75020.
Visitation for Mr. Calvird will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, December 17, 2010 at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St., Denison, TX 75020.
Mr. Calvird was born on March 30, 1924 in Parson, Kansas the son of Harry Ray and Bessie (Murray) Calvird. Mr. Calvird, a decorated WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, taught science and astronomy. A Lion for over 40 years, Mr. Calvird actively supported the Lions' camps and activities for children with disabilities. He retired from the El Paso Public Schools in 1986 to his farm near Jacksonville, TX
Harry married Irene and had a son, Ronald who was born in 1947. Harry later married Ruth Johnson in 1952 and had a son, Rich in 1959.
Mr. Calvird is survived by his 2 sons, Rich Calvird, wife Gina, and Rich's daughters, Amanda and Audrey; son, Ronald Calvird, Ron's daughters Ronni Calvird & Conni Hulse, son-in-law Roland Hulse, and their son (Harry's great-grandson) Ronald Hulse. He was preceded in death by Ruth Johnson Calvird, his wife of 49 years, brother Deane White, and sister Clara Spears.
Mr. Calvird was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He received a BS degree in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1952; an MS in Basic Sciences, University of Colorado - Boulder, 1960, and was a "Travelling Science Teacher" for the American Science Foundation 1957 – 1959.
