Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard, Denison, Texas.
Al was born November 7, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to William Karl and Hertha Wetzold. His first job was in the family owned restaurant but he had several vocational adventures including a favorite of working on a racecar pit crew.
In 1964, his talents took him to General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut where he worked as a senior design liaison on the nautilus class of nuclear submarines. He worked at Electric Boat until deciding to retire in 1994; He was only 57 years old. People said that it couldn’t be done, that he was too young but he pulled it off and never worked another day in his life.
After retiring he left Connecticut and came to Texas “as fast as he could” here he lived the life of leisure. He enjoyed tinkering with his automobiles, drinking coffee and putt-putting around town meeting new people, “Stanger’s are just friends you haven’t met yet” he would say. He was a friend of Bill W. having just received his 23 year chip.
He is survived by his daughter Mari Anne Wetzold and son William Wetzold both of Sherman; granddaughter Micaiah of Sherman; Sister Helga Rosenthal of Manhattan, New York; two nieces Melissa and Alicia Rosenthal of New York and the mother of his children Dorothy Wetzold of Carolina Shores, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made the American cancer Society.
