January 20, 1928 - February 17, 2026
Anne Schiffmayer Bugbee
Anne Schiffmayer Bugbee passed peacefully into eternity on February 17, 2026, surrounded by friends and family. After 98 years of physical independence and mental sharpness, her health declined quickly and her final days of suffering were mercifully few.
Anne was born on January 20, 1928, in East Orange, NJ. to Olga and George Schiffmayer. She was raised in Stroudsburg, PA and Metuchen, NJ and holds fond memories of her family’s summer house at Lake Mohawk, NJ. She was a graduate of Metuchen High School and received her BA in French and Voice from Western College (now Miami University) in Oxford, Ohio.
From the time she was a child, she was a singer. In her early teens, she began voice studies at Rutgers University and moved on to professional voice lessons in New York City, where she met her future husband, Elliot; possessor of a beautiful baritone voice.
Elliot and Anne were married in April,1954. Elliot worked as an advertising manager for TV Guide Magazine in a 30-year career that started in New York before transferring him to Massachusetts. They had two sons: David (Bates College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary) and Jeff (University of Colorado). The family lived in New Jersey until 1964, and resided west, north, and south of Boston for the next 30 years. Many will remember her years working at Masconomet High School assisting students in the foreign language resource center.
After their sons left home, Elliot and Anne travelled to Alaska, Hawaii, the Canadian Rockies, Maritimes, British Isles, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. But their favorite place was Cape Cod, with its flashbacks to happy family vacations in the 1960s, where they later spent eleven retirement years.
In 1994, they moved out to Colorado in 1994 to watch their grandchildren grow up and remained there since. Anne was a special “Grammy”; attending their soccer games and swim meets, spoiling them on clothes shopping sprees, and babysitting when their parents were out of town.
Anne and Elliot continued singing passion through the years, joining several chorales and also producing several of their own music shows for local community groups. As a committed Christian, Anne was active in several churches in Massachusetts and Colorado. An avid reader, she worked part-time at several libraries in New England. She loved needle-pointing, holiday decorating (especially cookie baking), and adored cats. But family was her top priority, where she was a wonderful wife and loving mom.
After Elliot’s passing in 2018, Anne spent her final years in Aurora, CO. She will join her husband of 64 years at Fort Logan National Cemetery, CO where burial will be private. She is survived by her two sons: David of Cheyenne, WY, and Jeff (Kathy) of Centennial, CO; a sister: Merle (Richard) Hoagland of Beaufort, SC; and two grandchildren: Ashlyn of Los Osos, CA and Weston of Denver, CO.
