Beverly Maxine Watts (Benton), age 87 died peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. She was born on January 22, 1934, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She grew up in Bayard, Iowa on her family’s farm before moving to Denver, Colorado in 1948. She graduated from East High School in Denver, Colorado in 1951.
Beverly met her future husband, Deuane “Red” Watts, at a local soda fountain. Deuane won her heart with his laughter, persistence, and unusual request for pineapple milkshakes. They were married on October 24, 1951, had 3 beautiful children, and celebrated 64 wonderful years together.
Beverly was a devout Catholic who could be found every Sunday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Her family loved listening to her sing the hymns as she had a voice like an angel.
She was a talented artist who volunteered her time to create thousands of beaded rosaries that were sent to churches all over the world. Beverly also loved to paint ceramics, especially small statues and ornaments. Christmas was Beverly’s favorite time of the year, and it brought her immense joy to decorate every inch of her house to celebrate the season.
Animals held a special place in Beverly’s heart. Cats were her favorite, especially Garfield, her beloved red tabby. When she was a young girl, she had a Scottish Terrier whom she lovingly called “my Scotty dog”. She talked about him often when reminiscing about her childhood.
Beverly loved traveling to visit family all over the world. Some of her favorite adventures were to Alaska, Yellowstone, Switzerland, Ireland and England.
Beverly suffered from dementia in her later years. Even though dementia robbed her of her memories, it never stole her quick wit and sense of humor.
She was predeceased by her husband, Deuane, parents Donna Elwood and Glen Benton, and son in law, Denton “Butch” Colley, Jr.
She is survived by three children: Sherry Colley, Boulder, Colorado; Rick (Sara) Watts, Houston, Texas; and Sheila (David) English, Aurora, Colorado; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
