Harvey William Gehring passed away on June 13, 2016, at the age of 93. He was born on May 7, 1923, to John Henry Gehring and Tina Hassebrook Gehring in Platte Center, Nebraska.
He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church near Platte Center, Nebraska, where he grew up on a farm. On January 1, 1958, Harvey was united in marriage to Zelma Irene Sherman at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Calhan, Colorado, by his cousin Reverend Wayne Carmony. To their union three children were born. After farming for a number of years near Kersey, Colorado, he moved to Greeley, Colorado, where he retired from Ellis and Capp Equipment Company. He served the Boy Scouts of Kersey, Colorado. Harvey was deeply spiritual and very faithful and active in his church. At Gloria Christi Lutheran Church of Greeley, he served on the Board of Trustees and as Treasurer. He also served as Treasurer for the Lutheran Brotherhood Fraternal Branch. In 1988, Harvey moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, and served as Fraternal Communicator for the West Slope Branch at Messiah Lutheran Church.
Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, and one granddaughter, Hannah, as well as his parents, his sister Marguerite, and his brothers, Raymond, Gilbert, Robert, Walter, Julius, and Henry. He is survived by his three children, Deborah, Patricia, and Steven, and one granddaughter, Whitney and step- granddaughter Lisa.
A funeral service will be held in Harvey’s honor at Hope Lutheran Church in Aurora on Monday, June 27, at 10:00am. A public visitation will be held at the church one hour prior. Harvey will be laid to rest at Olinger Eastlawn Cemetery in Aurora immediately following the funeral service.
