Hil was born Hildreth Annette Wiers on April 20, 1923 and was the oldest sibling born to Herman Wiers and Angie Kooistra with sister Anna Fae and brothers Frank Bernard, Floyd Maynard, and Frank Cornell.
Hil was born on the kitchen table of her home in Zeeland, Michigan. There, she attended Zeeland Christian School. She recounted the best time of her childhood was while her favorite aunt Grace lived with the family, “I adored her – she was so much fun.” Hil graduated high school in 1941. Always a people person, she worked for a while at Bennett Lumber declining office work for the camaraderie of friends and “roughness” and high jinx in the factory. In 1943, Hil worked for the war effort in the factory at Fafnir Bearing Company. Hil moved to Denver with her family when she was 21 years old. She worked various office jobs in addition to part-time car hop during the time she met LeRoy Humphrey in 1954. Roy and Hil were married that same year. Hil retired from administrative work with the May D&F Company after many years of service.
Hil’s faith was always a large part of her life. She dedicated her life to Jesus, read the bible daily during her morning “quiet time”, and for many years led a women’s bible study group through her church. Roy and Hil have been members of the same church from their early years through the present which is now known as the South Fellowship Church.
Hil’s positive attitude, love of laughter, and loyalty resulted in life long friends from all chapters of her life. She always had ice cream or a pot of coffee ready to serve with lively conversation.
Hil’s legacy will live on in all the people she touched as a faithful Christian, loving wife, devoted mother, caring sister, outstanding grandmother, heartfelt relative, and loyal friend. She will be missed very much but never forgotten.
