James Kelly Archibald Jr.

Jim was born on April 8, 1949, to the late James Kelly Archibald Sr. and Cynthia Archibald in Butte, Montana. He graduated from Butte High School and received a B.S. in Mining Engineering from Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology.

In 1970, Jim married the love of his life, Lynn Markovich – together their journey began. Jim’s career started with the American Smelting and Refining Company at Mission Mine in Tucson, Arizona. It was there that son James Kelly Archibald III was born. They eventually moved back to Butte when Jim joined his father at the Archibald Company. Son Ryan was born while in Butte. The journey continued, moving several times covering nine states, while raising their sons. Jim’s career ended successfully in 2006 as part-owner and Vice President of S.M. Stoller Corporation, an environmental, nuclear, and technical consulting and engineering firm serving the Department of Energy (DOE). Stoller was awarded DOE’s prominent “Legacy Management” contract under Jim’s watch – managed from the Grand Junction, Colorado projects office.

In his retirement, Jim became an accomplished wine maker and wood worker, crafting and designing furniture for family and friends. He leaves a legacy of love with each piece he crafted.

Jim was a Professional Engineer, a Distinguished Alumni of Montana Tech, and a world traveler. He will long be remembered for being a loving husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lynn of 56 years; his sons, Kelly (Cam) and Ryan (Lindsay); grandchildren George, Ellie, James K. IV, and Charlie; sister Deb; brothers John (Sheilah) and Bob (Bronwyn); sisters-in-law Karen (Larry) and Janice (Charley); nieces and nephews.
