

Camilla (Carmela) Jean Fulco, age 84, of Lakewood, CO, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 24, 2018, at her home. She was born Dec. 4, 1933 in Shreveport, LA.
Jean’s calling was in education, serving as Principal at Mesa Elementary School, Westminster, CO and Assistant Principal at Westminster High School. She also was a Counselor at Littleton HS and at Shaw Heights Jr HS, Westminster. Her education included St. Vincent’s Academy, Shreveport, LA; Loyola University, New Orleans, LA; Centenary College, Shreveport, LA (BS Education); and University of Colorado, Boulder (MA).
Jean was the author of a historical genealogy of her Italian ancestry: “Family of Filippo Matassa: from Sicily to Louisiana.”
She is survived by her life companion, Barbara Rogers; sister, Maria C. Katz; nieces, Jennifer Katz and Jackie (Eric) Lomibao; nephew, Todd (Satomi) Katz; great niece, Olivia; and great nephews, Nicholas, Maxwell, and Grayson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred P. and Concetta “Mary” (nee Matassa) Fulco; grandparents, Salvatore and Carmela M. (nee Papa) Fulco; Filippo and Carmela (nee Cangelosi) Matassa; and brother-in-law, Jerry Katz.
Jean was an avid reader, traveler, animal and bird lover, a great listener and wonderful friend. She was a beautiful story teller with a sweet sense of humor. She will be very dearly missed by her family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to an Animal or Wildlife organization of donor’s choice; Denver Women’s Chorus; or Little Sisters of the Poor, Denver, CO.
