She attended Mitchell Elementary, Cole Middle School, and Manual High School. One year after her graduation she married Lonnie D. Pickford, eventually giving birth to her only child Desiree R. Pickford. Seven years later Lonnie and JoAnn’s marriage ended. JoAnn worked for Martin Marietta before leaving to work for Western Electric. That is where she met and married Albert S. Armstrong. During their marriage, they were a powerhouse. Creating two businesses, Holiday Magic and a full service gas station. They divorced and she met the love of her life, Jerome Smith. After 25 years, she retired from Western Electric before attending school for Massage Therapy and started her own business.
JoAnn loved interior decorating and was hired to decorate many homes. She loved making flower arrangements, shopping, movies, and dining out. But there's nothing she loved more than being a Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.
JoAnn leaves behind her daughter Desiree Pickford-Fulbright, her husband Don Fulbright. Two grandchildren, David S. Pickford and Erin S. Pickford. And four great-grandchildren, Daniel A, Butler, Deshwan A. Pickford, Cameron F. Thompson, and little Ms. Faith Shalom Thompson, who was her best friend stayed by her side until the very end.
On August 4, 2025, Yahweh called her home at 6:15am. Now she can rest in peace and may her next journey bring her all the love, peace, and happiness. We will all meet again. In the meantime, fly mother. Spread your wings and fly.
A committal service for JoAnn will be held Monday, September 1, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231, followed by a celebration of life from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
