Larry James Shackley "Honey, Dad, Grandpa, Papa, Pastor Larry and Brother Larry, age 88 (almost 89 when he passed), of Aurora, Colorado graduated to heaven on Sunday, May 14, 2023. He passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado surrounded with his daughter Glenda and granddaughter Shannon by his side.
Larry was born on June 17th, 1934 in Aurora, Illinois. His parents were Harry Sylvester Shackley and Dorothy Mae Bell (both deceased). He has 3 siblings: Joanne Coop, Bob Shackley and Dave Shackley.
Larry was very mischievous as a young boy and even as he grew up! He pal'd around with his brothers and friends and was usually charged with watching over his sister Joanne. Larry and Joanne were very close and remained that way their whole lives. Some of the mischievous things Larry would do included, but were not limited to.... picking neighbors's flowers, setting neighborhood trash cans on fire, and putting his sister Joanne's toys up in the trees and making her climb to get them!
Larry Married the love of his life Nadene Marie Button on July 2nd, 1955 in San Mateo, California. They would go on to have 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Larry loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandson very much!
Larry graduated from high school and would go on to graduate from an airline mechanic apprenticeship and worked for United Airlines, Frontier Airlines and retired from Continental Airlines. Larry was always crew chief, lead mechanic or supervisor in his forty plus years as an airline mechanic.
Larry truly enjoyed being an airline mechanic, but he also enjoyed working on cars, in fact he had a side business doing so. Many people benefited from his knowledge and love of auto mechanics! Larry also enjoyed spending time with his family/friends, fishing, playing the harmonica, playing golf, watching football and basketball, and most of all loving and serving Jesus!
Larry surrendered his life to Jesus on February 22, 1971 and he was all in! Larry began immediately serving the Lord by serving and loving people. He felt called to the bus ministry at Aurora Faith Tabernacle where he would serve faithfully for over 20 years. Larry and Pastor Bruce Chambers took Larry's brown Ford van and filled it to the max with children the very first Sunday and the Bus Ministry exploded from there! Eventually running 10-12 buses every Sunday and changing so many children and families lives.
Larry would become the bus ministry pastor and was known by many as Pastor Larry. Children's Church Ministry was birthed from the Bus Ministry and Pastor Larry ministered to so many children through singing, Bible stories, object lessons, puppet shows and so much more! Larry dedicated his life to the calling of Jesus and that is, to love people and lead them to Jesus.
Larry's life verse was James 1:22 "Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. deceiving your own selves" He not only quoted this scripture often, but he lived this everyday of his life from the moment he surrendered his life to Jesus.
Larry and Nadene worshipped and served at Aurora Faith Tabernacle which would later become Faith Family Worship Center for over 50 years!
