Mary Louise Talbert went to be in the arms of Jesus on May 9, 2023 at 10:39am. She was 95 years of age. For the past 7 years, Mary Louise lived at Sunrise at Orchard nursing home in Englewood, Colorado. She died surrounded by her daughter and loving caretakers from this nursing home of natural causes.
Mary Louise was born on Valentines day in 1928 to Leo Francis and Zetta Belle McNerney in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was deeply loved by her parents who were older when they decided to have a child. Mary Louise was an only child and she received their full attention and love.
After high school, Mary Louise attended Colorado University for her freshman year before transferring to Kansas University for the rest of her college years. She studied Elementary Education and fulfilled her desire to teach after graduation. She taught 4th grade in Kansas City, Missouri for 2 years. She taught 6th grade for 2 years after getting married and moving to Denver.
Mary Louise met her future husband, Jerry Talbert, on a blind date in Kansas City in 1950. They dated for 3 years before getting married in June of 1953. Jerry and Mary Louise moved to Denver shortly after their wedding so Jerry could take a new position with an Insurance company.
In 1958, Mary Louise and Jerry welcomed their first child, John, into the world. Marilyn would come 2 years later completing the family. She was a devoted mother, wife and daughter. Her parents Leo and Belle also moved to Denver and eventually moved into the Talbert family home as their health declined.
In 1971, Jerry was diagnosed with colon cancer and God took him home in August of 1973. Leo, Mary Louise’s father, also died that same summer and Belle went to heaven 2 years later. Mary Louise, John and Marilyn were sustained by the Lord through this time and by the ministry of University Hills Baptist church and Calvary Baptist church of Englewood.
Mary Louise found University Hills Baptist after a search in the Yellow Pages and led her entire family to attend there. Pastor Herb Dickinson preached the WORD each Sunday and the seeds planted resulted in each member of her family coming to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Mary Louise attended Calvary Baptist of Englewood as her children grew up, attended college and entered into careers. She would spend her hours attending church, teaching Sunday School, leading Vacation Bible School each summer, participating in Evangelism and ministering to people who needed a meal or a visit in the hospital. Pastor Andy Hornbaker preached Jesus and she was surrounded by her church family while her kids were away from home.
During the early 2000’s Mary Louise supported her son and daughter in ministry and eventually transferred her church membership to First Southern Baptist Church in Northglenn where she could support John in his ministry there. She served through teaching Sunday School. The church family helped and ministered to all the Talberts during the hard years of John's illness and his home going in 2019.
God - who is always good - led Marilyn to relocate Mary Louise to Sunrise at Orchard Assisted Living and Memory Care. It was here that Mary Louise had her glory years. As her body failed - the Holy Spirit was released through her. Her joy and sense of humor encouraged those who took care of her — She was deeply loved by the wonderful caregivers in this facility. Marilyn was also greatly blessed and freed up to focus on loving Mary Louise.
Mary Louise took her first full breath in the presence of Jesus on Tuesday, May 9 at 10:40am. Her daughter Marilyn remains and will confess the Goodness of God the rest of her life until she is reunited.
“Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.” Ps 113:2
