Richard Grady Hanrehan, beloved husband, brother and father, died on November 23, 2021 at the age of 87. Richard is survived by his children, Becky Johnson, Kathy Rose, Kris Umble, Karen Huss, and Richard John Hanrehan and their respective spouses; his brothers Pat and Dennis and their spouses, his sister Eileen, his grandchildren, Melissa, Jenna, Connor, Danyelle, Corbin, Ryan, Gabriel and Jackson, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Mary, his son James, his brother, Jack Hanrahan; his niece Teresa, his nephews Neil and Stanley, his sister Emily Warner, and his parents, Emily and John Hanrehan.
Richard was born in Denver on October 18, 1934. He attended St. Catherine’s Elementary school, North High School and obtained a mechanics license from Emily Griffith Opportunity school. He worked as a mechanic for 30 years. Richard also served as a member of the Air National Guard for 9 years and was honorably discharged. On January 29th, 1966, he married Mary, a registered nurse and love of his life. Richard and Mary raised 5 children together.
Richard was a devoted husband and father, an avid musician, hobbyist, photographer and singer. He enjoyed playing the piano, singing in the church choir, exploring the mountains and various destinations, building and flying model airplanes and spending time with his family. He was also a self taught electrician and carpenter and would build many projects, both large and small. He was a spiritual man and involved in many church activities, including cantoring during services. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A visitation for Richard will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM followed by a rosary both at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM on December 3, 2021 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora, CO. Father John Almeida will officiate. He will be interred at Littleton Cemetery following the funeral.
Serving as pallbearers are Richard J. Hanrehan - Son , Dennis Hanrahan - Brother , Tom Huss - Son-in-law, Shane Rose - Son-in-law, Trev Umble - Son-in-law, Corbin Huss - Grandson , Connor Rose - Grandson and Gabriel Hanrehan - Grandson .
