Feb. 25, 1929 – Aug. 24, 2025
Robert Don Huntington left this world to be with the Lord, perhaps fittingly on a Sunday morning, on Aug. 24, 2025 in Aurora, Colorado. Known to most as Bob, he was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather. Amongst his large family he was also a brother, uncle, cousin, and more. In a full life of 96 years, he was also a minister, a pressman, and a friend.
Bob was born on Feb. 25, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas to parents Roy Lee Huntington and Beulah Irene Huntington (neé Hyde, later Carr). He was the fifth of ten children, along with brothers Lee Roy, Charles Perry, Virgil Allen, Lowell Lindberg, Boyd Stanley, Darrell Gene and Paul Daniel, and sisters Juanita Darlene and Wylma Maxine.
Bob married Jobelle Anderson on July 31, 1948. The first of their six children, son Robert II (or Robby), was born almost exactly one year later and followed over the next 11 years by daughters Pam, Dora and Debbie and then sons Timmy and finally Curtis. Bob joined the U.S. Army in March 1952 and served on active duty during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on Dec. 16, 1953.
Bob served as a pressman at the Kansas City Star and was always active in the church. The family moved west to Colorado in 1966 when Bob had an opportunity to minister at the Church of God of Prophecy in Aurora. He also went to work in the pressrooms at The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News. Bob and Jobelle would later separate once their children were older.
Bob married Joyce Marie Crawford on Valentine’s Day in 1985, and the couple lived out the rest of his life by each other’s side over 40 years of marriage. They lived in Denver together through Bob’s retirement from The Denver Post in 1991, and would later move to the mountains about ten years later. They made their home in South Park not far from Tarryall Reservoir for nearly 23 years, but regularly traveled to the Front Range for family functions. They could be counted on to make the drive down for graduations, weddings, birthday parties, and other notable milestones.
Bob and Joyce loved spending time in the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hiking. Sometimes just the two of them and sometimes with family and friends. They built and maintained lasting friendships, especially through the church community at Faith Freedom Fellowship in Fairplay. Bob and Joyce moved back to Denver to a senior living community in 2024.
The most important things in Bob’s life were Family, God, and the USA.
Bob is survived by his wife Joyce, daughters Pam Olson and Dora Swanson (Tom), sons Timmy and Curtis Huntington (Leigh Ann), 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, all nine of his siblings, son Robert II, daughter Debbie Ballast, grandson Tommy Swanson, and great granddaughter Kayla Jo Aragon.
A visitation for Bob will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Olinger Hampden Mortuary, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231. Visitation, Friday, September 19, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM, followed by Funeral service at 11:00 AM both at Olinger Mortuary 8600 East Hampden Ave., Denver, CO 80231.
