Robert was born in LaBarge, Wyoming to Robert F. and Helen (Cranor) Vickrey. He has one sister, Anita M. Vickrey (Palm Desert, CA) and was preceded in death by his twin brother Ralph G. Vickrey.
After graduating from Kemmerer High School, Kemmerer, WY he left his home state for enlistment in the United States Air Force beginning in 1954. He served two posts as a Bomb Navigation Instructor at Lowry AFB, Aurora, CO and Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX.
While stationed at Lowry AFB, he met and married his wife of 67 years, Edonisa “Eddy” (Yant) Vickrey. Together they had two sons, Robert John (Cordova, NE) and Joseph Wesley (Denver, CO). Vic received an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force in 1963 and returned to Aurora, Colorado to be nearer family. He sought and earned his Barber license, a profession he enjoyed for nearly 45 years full and part time. In the late 1960’s he joined the Colorado Department of Transportation in the Traffic and Safety Division painting the stripes on the highways of Colorado, where he was chosen to paint the first stripes on Eisenhauer/Johnson Tunnel lanes.
Robert was an active member of multiple organizations, including the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Aurora Citizen Band Radio Association (President), the Masons and the Independent Order of Oddfellows and Rebekah. Robert served in many leadership roles within these groups, most notably as the Grand Master of the State of Colorado (1993-1994), and The General Commanding of the General Military Council (2008-2009) within the branches of the IOOF. He belonged to Faith Presbyterian Evangelical Church.
In addition to his work and Fraternal activities Robert was an accomplished bowler, recreational golfer, coach, mentor, chaperone and joyful assistant to his wife, children and many friends. He was renowned for his handlebar mustache and for being a great hugger.
He is survived by his wife, Eddy, sons (Bob & Joe), 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Sheri Vickrey of Rawlins, WY and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 Daughter-in-laws (Victoria & Crystal) and 2 grandchildren.
