Rod and I were on the same team in the Air Force on Guam in 1967 and 1968. We were great friends. There is a video of him driving the MJ1 loading a B-52 on the internet. Just do a search for Bruce King, Guam, 1967.  I was the skinnier guy on the tail of the bomb. Bruce was the other guy filling in for me when I shot the rest of the movie.
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to connect with Rod after Guam but always hoped I would. He was a great guy. I’m sorry for your loss. (Our loss)

Rod and I built jails together, snowmobiled, flew, golfed, traveled, shared meals, enjoyed each others family, joked, laughed, laughed some more, and shared the same birthday. He has an awesome family and I will miss my Brother Poland very much!  G

Dear Poland Family, I will truly miss Rods morning calls. Every morning he called on his way in and said Hi V. what do you have for me? I think he liked that it rhymed. Then we would talk about how great the weather was. My heart is so sad that he was not able to win this battle but not by the lack of trying. I have never met a stronger man. Our family has been blessed to know Rod in this life and I have known him for so many years it is hard to remember a time that I did not. Our time together here was far too short.  I know that we will meet again and there is comfort in that knowledge. Our prayers are on going for friends and family, there is a big void to fill without "Daniel Boon" and his "get it done" attitude out there taking charge and leading the way.  Rod you are, and will always be my friend.

Dear Poland Family,I was filled with a great sadness to hear of Rod's passing. There was a time he was like a brother to me.  Although we didn"t stay in touch very often I did think of him often. There are so many wonderful memories of him and all of you. He will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry for your loss of your son, brother, dad, and grandfather.  I feel very blessed to have been chosen by Rod to join the NDCC team.  I only worked with him briefly, but so admire his courage through his fight with cancer.  We definitely feel his absence at the office, but will see his spirit live on in continuing the legacy of NDCC.  I feel blessed to be able to work with Shannon and Leanna.  We hope you know that the team at NDCC has you in our thoughts and prayers as we all grieve the loss of a great man.

Sam and I are so sorry for your loss.  He will be sorely missed.  Although we were not in constant touch with Rod over the last few years, he was always in and out of our thoughts.  We met Rod when Sam was doing electrical work for NDCC.  At the end of a disastrous series of events, Sam and I lost virtually everything we had, including our jobs.  Rod put me to work, Guy put Sam to work and between the two of them, they prevented our family from being homeless and hungry.  The compassion and kindness of these two brothers still amazes me.  Bob and Wilma, you did a good job with your boys!  Shelly and Shannon, know that your dad was so proud of both of you - he bragged every time I talked to him.  Anita, know that you made him very happy.

Rod's birthday was the day before mine and ever since that day in the mid 1980's when he literally gave me a job, no matter where either of us were in the world, he called.  He and I certainly had our differences (both stubborn, both not really willing to back down, both believing we were generally right about everything), there were a few yelling matches in the years I worked for him, but I always knew that he and I both cared about the other deeply.  One of my fondest memories was when we had a disagreement over the phone, he yelled, I yelled back, told him “I QUIT!!” and hung up on him.  Within a half hour, there were a dozen roses delivered with a little note that said only “I'm sorry.” We laughed about that again just a couple of months ago.
 
Sam and I, like so many others I am sure, will never forget the difference that Rod made in our lives and we are better human beings because of him.
