Sunnie grew up in Denver and attended East High School where she met Jim. They married on July 2, 1954 and raised 4 daughters who also went to East High School. Sunnie was the Secretary to the Head of Personnel at Western Electric Company, starting the last week of high school. With babies coming early on, she wanted to stay home so she started her day care provider career and took in laundry and ironing. She was a licensed day care provider until 1978. Sunnie worked at Colorado National Bank for 15 years eventually becoming the Executive Secretary to Peter Grant, the Chairman of the Board. When that job was eliminated, she worked for the Denver Museum of Natural History for a few months and then worked in the Business Development Department of University Hospital until she retired in 1998. However, she went back to the Museum to volunteer and also worked for Peter Grant personally for many years. Sunnie loved to sew, quilt, read, play cards, make cards, walk, cook and bake, travel and entertain. Sunnie was all about family and she nurtured and loved not only her own children, but so many other children. Sunnie will be remembered as loving, nurturing, extremely organized, a wonderful cook, a creative and talented artist, a gifted seamstress and tough as nails with a backbone of iron under a soft exterior. She will be forever missed.
A visitation for Sunnie will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
