Varia Gharapetian Ghadifchian was born in P’atigorsk, Russia on May 19, 1919. She married Yervant in 1940. She was a loving wife to her husband for 50 years and enjoyed family life immensely.
She was a cheerful, witty, beautiful and intelligent woman. She was a patriotic citizen and had many friends. She was a devout Christian and loved to do needlework and design and make clothes. She also and enjoyed all of the holidays to the fullest. Varia loved classical and patriotic music and Armenian folksongs. Varia spoke five languages and liked to read and discuss international politics.
She is survived by her daughters, Maryam Mirzakhanian of Hamburg, Germany; Diana Marashlian of Santa Clarita, California; her son, Stephen Ghadaifchian of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, Meline Voges, of Hamburg, Germany; Christine Mirzakhanian of Hamburg, Germany; Christopher Marashlian of Daly City, California; Tammy Marashlian of Culver City, California; and Audrey Jones of Denver, Colorado; two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Simon Voges of Hamburg; her sister-in-law, Takosush Gharapetian of Glendale, California and her two sons, Dr. George Gharapetian of San Clemente, California and Roubick Gharapetian of Duarte, California and their families. Other survivors include her first cousin, Genia Sarkissian and her husband of Glendale, California.
Funeral service details are pending. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine Philoptochos Society, c/o St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 5555 S. Yosemite St., Greenwood Village, CO 80111. The Philoptochos Society is a philanthropic women’s ministry of the church, which supports shelters and feeds the needy.
