Jennie Cedillo was born May 8, 1932 in Johnstown, Co., (then known as Juanita Martinez). She grew up in Platteville, Co., graduating high school in 1951. Jennie had two children from a previous marriage but was abandoned at the age of 23, having to find a job to survive. She found one in Denver, working for an insurance company, where she met her future sister-in-law, Marge Cedillo. Marge introduced her brother Phil to Jennie at the GAO, a popular dance hall, in 1959.
From that night on things worked out great - we became deeply in love. I knew she was a good and sincere woman and did so much want to become a part of her life. We were married at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in June of 1960. We were both so happy, I couldn't have asked for anything better. We had five children plus two more that we raised into mature, responsible adults.
In 1993, Jennie was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. I retired early from Coors Brewery so as to let Jennie spend more time at home. Jennie had been helping to run a shop we owned at the old Lakeside Mall- Cid's Boutique. The disease eventually started to take its toll, requiring Jennie to be transported by wheelchair for the past 10 years. At times, she could still walk with a cane and some support. But then Jennie was afflicted with osteo arthritis, suffering many falls and broken bones, let alone the continuous Parkinson's side effects.
In the summer of 2014, Jennie was further diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy and lymph node dissection. Radiation was also completed, followed by chemotherapy, which depleted her immune system and she came down with pneumonia. This was too much for her and she passed away on Dec. 2, 2014.
Before she died, I was able to tell Jennie goodbye and what a good woman she was- a good mother and a good wife. I asked her if she understood what I said. Unable to speak while on a respirator, Jennie blinked her eyes as if to say "yes". I then told her that when we were married we took the vow of "until death do we part" but I don't believe it. I told Jennie to wait for me and that we'll meet again and once again go walking hand in hand.
My wife Jennie was an extraordinary woman, small in statute but strong in will power. She enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing and being with our children. I shall for forever miss her so.
