Alan was a lifelong Des Plaines resident and proud veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division.
While enjoying many sports, he always remained an avid Bears fan. With a special fondness for classic cars, he often attended car shows with his wife. He also loved their many vacations to destinations near and far.
He was a cherished husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather (papa). He was a friend to many, the life of the party and many times the last one to leave. He loved to dance, have a beer and just have a good time. He fought bravely until the end and his contagious laughter will be greatly missed by all.
Survived by his loving wife, Diana; Daughter, Dina (Mark); Grandchildren, Jason and Maya.
Preceded in death by parents, Helen and Dale Birch.
