Anna Do

October 31, 1936 – July 27, 2025

Lee Bok Soon, also known as Do Anna after her baptism, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.

She was born in Nagoya, Japan on October 31, 1936, the second of five children and the eldest daughter of Lee So Dol and Jun Nam Soon. In 1944, her father passed away, and the following year, after Korea’s liberation, her mother returned with the children to Korea to rebuild their lives. Those early years shaped her quiet strength, resilience, and deep sense of family.

In 1959, she married Do Sang Ki in Hamchang, South Korea, and they welcomed their only child, Do Seun Hee, in 1960. In 1965, her husband left for Germany to seek work opportunities. During that time of separation, she found strength and comfort through the Catholic Church and was baptized in 1966 — choosing the name Anna. Her faith became a lifelong source of peace and purpose, and she remained a devoted member of the Catholic Church.

In 1974, she and her daughter immigrated to the United States to reunite with her husband and pursue a better life. She later became a U.S. citizen and formally adopted her baptismal name, Anna. Her daughter, Do Seun Hee, later married Park Soon and became known as Park Seun Hee.

Anna was known for her quiet spirit, unwavering commitment to her family, and inner strength. Though she rarely spoke about herself, she carried life’s burdens with grace. She helped raise her four grandchildren with deep love and dedication. Her food was one of the ways she showed her love — and it will be deeply missed by all who tasted it.

In October 2015, Anna lost her beloved husband of over 50 years. Though his passing was a profound loss, she remained a steady, loving presence in her family’s life — faithful, devoted, and full of quiet strength.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Park Seun Hee and Park Soon; four grandchildren and their spouses — Isaac and Natalie, Tina and Keishi, Peter and Christine, Joe and Ashley; and six great-grandchildren — Jacob, Lucy, Chloe, Emma, Luca, and Henry — with a seventh great-grandchild expected in the fall of 2025.

Anna will be laid to rest beside her husband at All Saints Cemetery, reunited with him once again.

Her life was marked by love, faith, quiet perseverance, and putting others before herself. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A visitation for Anna will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Korean Martyrs' Catholic Church, 4115 N. Kedvale Ave., Chicago until the time of the funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. A committal service will follow at 12:00 PM at All Saints Cemetery, 700 N. River Rd., Des Plaines, IL.

이복순 님(세례명 안나)께서는 2025년 7월 27일, 사랑하는 가족들이 지켜보는 가운데 평온하게 하나님의 품으로 떠나셨습니다. 향년 88세였습니다.

1936년 일본 나고야에서 아버지 이소돌 님과 어머니 전남순 님 사이에서 태어난 다섯 남매 중 둘째이자 장녀였습니다. 1944년 아버지의 별세 이후, 어머니와 네 남매는 해방 직후인 1945년에 한국으로 돌아와 새로운 삶을 시작하게 되었습니다. 어려운 환경 속에서 성장하며, 어린 시절부터 책임감과 인내심을 지닌 사람으로 자라났습니다.

1959년, 경상북도 함창에서 도상기 님과 혼인하였고, 1960년 외동딸 도선희 님을 낳았습니다. 1965년 남편이 독일로 일자리를 찾아 떠난 이후 아홉 해 동안 떨어져 있었으며, 그 시간 동안 그녀는 천주교 신앙을 통해 위로와 힘을 얻었습니다. 1966년 세례를 받으며 ‘안나’라는 이름을 선택하였고, 그 신앙은 이후 평생 삶의 중심이 되었습니다.

1974년, 그녀는 딸과 함께 미국으로 이주하여 남편과 재회하였고, 가족이 함께할 수 있는 새로운 삶을 시작했습니다. 이후 시민권을 취득하며 세례명 안나를 법적인 이름으로 채택하였습니다. 딸 도선희 님은 박순 님과 결혼하여 박선희로 개명하였습니다.

안나 님은 조용한 성품, 가족을 향한 변함없는 헌신, 그리고 놀라운 인내심으로 많은 이들에게 기억되고 있습니다. 자신의 이야기를 드러내지 않으면서도 삶의 무게를 묵묵히 감내했고, 네 명의 손주를 깊은 사랑으로 돌보며 삶을 살아갔습니다. 정성과 따뜻함이 담긴 그녀의 음식은 오래도록 많은 이들의 기억 속에 남을 것입니다.

2015년 10월, 50년 넘게 함께한 남편 도상기 님이 별세한 후에도, 안나 님은 가족들 곁에서 변함없는 사랑과 존재감으로 많은 이들에게 위로가 되어주셨습니다.

유족으로는 딸과 사위 박선희·박순 님, 네 명의 손주와 그 배우자들 — 아이작·나탈리, 티나·케이시, 피터·크리스틴, 조·애슐리 — 그리고 여섯 명의 증손주 — 제이콥, 루시, 클로이, 엠마, 루카, 헨리 — 와 2025년 가을에 태어날 예정인 일곱 번째 증손주가 있습니다.

안나 님은 All Saints Cemetery 에서 남편 도상기 님 곁에 안장되어 다시 함께 쉬게 됩니다.

그분의 삶은 사랑, 믿음, 인내, 그리고 희생으로 가득했으며, 많은 이들의 마음 속에 오래도록 기억될 것입니다.
