Aurelia Gelabert was born in Los Palacios Provincia de Pinar del Rio, Cuba on March 5, 1928 and passed away on June 9, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. Aurelia was preceded in death by her husband Manuel Gelabert and is survived by her daughter Ana Shay (Jack) and her son Manuel Gelabert Jr. (Norma Buscemi). Aurelia is also survived by five grandchildren, Alexander Gelabert (Mallory Bartes), Karina Gelabert-Fratus (Zach), Marisa Gelabert, John Shay and Joshua Shay.
Aurelia was educated in Cuba where she obtained her law degree from the University of Havana. In 1967 she and her family came to Chicago, Illinois where she began a new life in the United States. She spent her life devoted to her husband, her kids and her grandkids. She was known for her love of board games, playing cards, dominoes, reading, her cooking and most of all her devotion to her family.
A private service will be held at St. Emily’s Church in Mt.Prospect on Monday, June 15th at 10:00 am with burial immediately following at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
