Donald G. Roberts, 80 of Western Springs, Illinois and formerly of Lake Zurich and Glenview, Illinois, a respected community banker, proud veteran, and dedicated family man passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Don was born on September 15, 1945, in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Miron and Lorraine (Rosentreter). From an early age, Don demonstrated a strong sense of duty and service. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout, reflecting the values he carried throughout his life – integrity, leadership, faith, and commitment to others. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Robinson in Park Ridge on July 6, 1968. Don’s strong values continued to guide him in his service to his country as a member of the United States Army, including service during the Vietnam War.
Don was a respected community banker for over 35 years. After graduating from Northern Illinois University, he began his career with the Federal Reserve Bank. Following completion of service to his country, he built a successful career in commercial lending, primarily serving the Mount Prospect and Des Plaines communities.
Outside of work, he loved the outdoors. He spent many hours boating on Lake Geneva, fishing in the Outer Banks, and playing golf with friends. He was also known to enjoy a cool Miller High Life while watching the Chicago Bears. Above all, Don cherished time with his family, including his grandkids. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, witty sense of humor, and inventory of jokes worthy of repeating at least twice.
Don is survived by his wife Sandra; daughter Stephanie (Phil); 5 grandchildren (Zachary, Madeline, Trevor, Olivia and Mason); and many brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Christopher, two brothers, Ken and Richard, and his sister, Mary.
A visitation will be held at Ridgewood Memorial Park, Swan Lake Chapel, located at 9900 N Milwaukee Ave, Des Plaines, IL, 60016, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Funeral Service and Committal to immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St John’s Lutheran Church in LaGrange.
