It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Georgia Kostopoulos (nee Charuhas) who left this world peacefully on August 28, 2024 at the age of 94. A woman of unwavering strength and boundless love, she was the epitome of grace and selflessness, dedicating her life to the well-being of others.
Born on April 23, 1930 in Levidi, Greece to Fotis and Kanella Charuhas, Georgia was one of five children and the last of her family to part from this life. Georgia emigrated from Greece in 1954 and built a beautiful life with her late husband, Pericles. Georgia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and her love for her family was unparalleled. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, kindness, and compassion.
She was the purest of souls, whose gentle spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her. Whether through the warmth of her kitchen, the beauty of her garden, or the care with which she maintained her home, she made it her mission to meet the needs of everyone around her. Georgia had a true green thumb, and her garden was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, full of life and color. Her cooking, a testament to her love, nourished not only the body but also the soul, bringing comfort and joy to all who sat at her table.
Never one to speak poorly of others, Georgia was a beacon of positivity and integrity. She lived a life of quiet dignity, showing us all the power of humility and forgiveness. Her words were few, but her actions spoke volumes, leaving an impression that will endure for generations.
Today, we take comfort in knowing that Georgia has been reunited with her beloved husband, Pericles in the Kingdom of Heaven. Together, they are now forever at peace, embraced by the love of God. As Jesus promised, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die" (John 11:25-26). Her faith and devotion have led her to her eternal home, where she will dwell in joy and tranquility.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Kanella (Chris) Nicolopoulos, and Georgia (Anastasios) Mermigis. Adored Yiayia to George (Courtney) Nicolopoulos, Perry John (Emily) Nicolopoulos, Katerina (Nick) Adamopoulos, Stefanos Nicolopoulos, George, Perry, Angelo, Marina Mermigis and many nieces and nephews. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Swan Lake Chapel, Ridgewood Cemetery, 9900 North Milwaukee Avenue, Des Plaines, Illinois, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM at St. Lazarus Chapel. Entombment to follow after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the family for the expansion of Saint Lazaros chapel.
Rest in peace, Yiayia. Your life was a beautiful example of love in action, and you will be forever cherished and remembered.
