Joann was a second mom to me for many years.  I have so many wonderful memories with her from crashing a wedding to countless hours spent at her house to taking a trip on a house boat with her and her family. She even let us girls take over her house in Florida for a weekend. She was such a positive individual and always open to trying new things and having a good time.  She was the life of the party and always made me laugh.  Joann we will miss you so very much.  

When I think about JoAnn, I always think about how she was such a generous and giving person.  Not only did she do so much for Kristin, but for us girls as well!  From junior high school through post college, JoAnn always opened up her home in Des Plaines for me. I’ve been there for sleepovers, birthday parties, Halloween parties, all different celebrations. She also invited all of us girls to her home in Florida which was such a wonderful memory. JoAnn was truly one of a kind who we all loved so much. She was not just my friends mom, but my extended family! I will miss her dearly! 

My heart has been broken for quite some time now. My son took a part of me when he died a few years ago and to now be on this earth without the two people who have been with me since I was born, I’m not sure how I can do this. They have been all that I’ve known. 

My mom was awesome. That’s the best way that I can describe her. She was there for me every second of my life. From taking 20 pictures of me opening one Christmas present, labeling the back of every picture she took so I would always know the memories we had, going to every single dance class, recital and concert (and there was A LOT), keeping absolutely EVERYTHING from old notes I wrote her to my  dance shoes and costumes, to shipping us things we needed when we moved to Pittsburgh and even hopping on a flight the second Nixon would get critical. She always told me that she wanted to give me everything that she didn’t have. She was always there. 

My parents were high school sweethearts, were married for 51 years and only spent 6 months apart. They truly couldn’t live without each other. I couldn’t have asked for 2 better people to guide me through this journey. One of the last things that I told my mom was to be proud of her life. They both should be proud. They were a one of a kind couple and to know them was to love them. And will love them both till the twelfth of never.



JoAnn was not only a close friend but also part of my family. Our families would camp together, have backyard picnics, and vacation together - houses at Morro Bay CA, houseboat in the Ozarks, Oregon Trail and a mule ride down the Grand Canyon. I remember Matt (me as well) getting off the mule with every bone in his body aching but JoAnn just jumped off!
Rest In Peace my dear friend. 

I’ll miss JoAnn very much. It’s surreal to think that she’s gone.  We met about 7 years ago when I moved to Florida and decided it was time to learn how to play canasta and other related card games. JoAnn was very competitive but also very patient with her new “student”. I always appreciated that. She had a beautiful smile that always lit up the room and a good sense of humor. I often poked fun at her quirky eating habits but she took it in stride. We loved to go to dances at VillageWalk and shake our booties.  As time went on and Covid struck, we didn’t get to hang around together much but she  was definitely a person I liked to be around.  

We will miss JoAnn so much. Our memories in Florida certainly include our many hours playing bocce together in Village Walk and trying to beat Matt and JoAnn!  I loved my quiet conversations with JoAnn. She was so proud of her little Marina, and cherished her memories of Nixie. 
I am so sorry I did not get to say goodbye in person to our beautiful JoAnn,  but I know she is among the angels now.
We will miss JoAnn and Matt always!

To my childhood and forever best friend, Kristin: Almost every childhood memory I have includes you and your mom.  I will always remember your mom’s infectious laugh, her beauty, kind heart, and fun stories when we would carpool to dance class, go on family camping trips, long weekends away, swimming in your pool, sleepovers where our mom’s would supply the music/pizza/dunkin’ donuts/matching pjs and sleeping bags, sneaking up the exit of the McDonald’s Oasis where our cool mom’s would lift the gate to make things more exciting for us. I remember your mom throwing huge popcorn balls to us while she was driving and us trying to catch them as we were changing into our dance clothes in the backseat of your minivan. I remember going out to eat after our dance recitals and our families would just laugh together for hours after the longest weekend, but we’re always happy because they lived for our smiles. I remember playing dress up at your house and your mom would let us wear her fancy clothes and let us play with her makeup, and then do a photo shoot with us at the top of your stairs. I remember her catching us dumping out 100s of pixie sticks on your kitchen table and instead of getting mad at us, she laughed and said “you two need a bigger table!”. I remember your mom making me “girl cheeses” because she knew they were my favorite. I have countless memories like these and your mom will never be forgotten. She was wonderful in every way and we will be sure that her spirit is always alive and Marina will know what an amazing grandma she has. Joanne loved you more than anything and was always so proud of you. No doubt that she, your dad, and Nixon will continue to watch over you. All my love to you, always. <3 xo

I’ve been friends with JoAnn since grade school.  We lived a few short blocks from each other.  Our friendship was shared with many memories. The years are so filled with events. Like get togethers at our houses, and with spouses. Playing games, traveling, laughing and always able to be ourselves. We shared wine and food and snacks and fun times. We supported each other through difficult times too. She was kind, loving, funny, competitive, and honest. I know she fought a good fight. She will always be my forever friend and one day we’ll reunite in heaven and hug again. 

JoAnn was my lifelong friend. We laughed together and we cried together. She always helped everyone who needed help. She was friendly, funny, an excellent card player, bocce player and great host to many parties   The best part of having a lifelong friend are all the memories that are now stored in my heart. I will miss her everyday.
