Margaret Altergott, nee Dickett, 99, of Mt. Prospect, former long-time resident of Chicago, beloved wife of the late Rudolph W. Altergott, loving mother of Craig (Jayme Story), Gary (Graciela), Dr. Rudolph (Dr. Karen), Thomas (Therese), Robert (Summer), and Richard (Julie); dear grandmother of fourteen; great-grandmother of seven; and aunt to several nieces and nephews. Margaret is survived by one brother, Jim (Pauline) Price. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Dorothy (Eastwood) Dickett, and her siblings Frances (Richard) Lindstrom, Earl (Jane) Price, Arthur (Marilyn) Price, John Price, Doris (Charles) McCaw, Ralph (Peggy) Wilson, Robert Price, and Patricia (James) Sterner.
Margaret was born and raised in Rockford, IL. She met Rudolph while a student at Lake Forest College, and they married in 1948. Margaret raised her family on the northwest side of Chicago. She was an accomplished gardener and sewer, excellent cook, keen card player, avid reader, and gracious hostess. Among her many qualities were patience, kindness, wisdom, and a wry sense of humor. She liked to swim and played field hockey, tennis, and racquetball over the years. She showed her love and devotion to her sons and grandchildren by attending countless sporting events, concerts, and plays. We will miss solving puzzles with her, sharing meals and laughter with her, making her special Christmas cookies with her, and enjoying ice cream treats with her in her condo, where she lived proudly and independently until her last day.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care of Mount Prospect or your favorite charity are appreciated.
