

Mary Eleanor Jane Weiss, nee Harder, (AKA Mrs. Bo-Dino) passed away March 27th, 2025 at the age of 85 in her home in Des Plaines. Mary was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois on August 26, 1939 to the late Erwin and Mildred Harder. Her schooling was at St. Matthias and she was an Alvernia High School Graduate Class of 1957.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Richards Weiss (AKA Bo-Dino the Dean of Clowns), and their son, Jeffrey Richards Weiss.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Chandler and husband Randy; daughter-in-law, Dawn Weiss; and sister-in-law Diane Bodenhemier-Barnhart of PA. Grandchildren, Jamie (Mike) Hadady, Dean Weiss II, Jon (Mary Kate) Chandler, Morgan Weiss, and Madeline Weiss; great-grandchildren, Truman, Sumner, Viola, and Louisa Hadady, and expected Baby Chandler. She also leaves many other family members and friends, specifically cousins Karen LeBlanc and Goddaughter Sue Scott.
Mary was a long-time bus driver and trainer for Septran for over 40 years in Des Plaines and neighboring towns. She was a devoted grandma and great-grandma. AKA Yaya to the great grandkids, she loved spending time with the kids in her life. She will be lovingly remembered for her fun trips to Nickel City, shopping trips, reading books, fun holidays, and spending as much time she could with those she loved. She was a member of the former Moose Lodge in Des Plaines.
Her daughter, Julie, thanks the many friends and family that have helped her during this time. Visits, phone calls, and prayers were greatly appreciated.
Special thanks to the staff at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital during her four hospital stays the past nine months, and to Advocate Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful care and help given to her while at home.
The memorial wake will be held 1pm to 5pm, Saturday May 3rd at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street in Des Plaines. Donations can be made to Alzheimer's or Pancreatic Cancer Foundations in her memory.
