Shirley Bednar

She is preceded in death by her parents, the late Edgar and Erma Russell; her siblings, the late Wilma (Charles) Scott, Bob Russell, and Pearl (Jim) Steinken; her husband, the late Fred S. Bednar; her children, the late Steven (Nancy) Bednar, Stacey Niebuhr, and Stuart Bednar; and her grandchildren, the late Katie Bednar and Abby Monhollen. Shirley is survived by her children, Stan Bednar and Starr (Roger) Monhollen; her grandchildren, Vanessa Bednar, Stan Jr. Bednar, Amanda Niebhur, Andrew (Kaitlyn) Monhollen, Alec (Riley) Monhollen, and Aidan Monhollen; and her great-grandchildren, Sedona, Jett, Aurora, Jasmine, Haley, and Katie.

Shirley lived a full life and found great fulfillment in many projects and pastimes. She enjoyed attending plays with her friends and broadening her horizons through travel, and she formed many meaningful connections during her longstanding attendance to the United Church of Christ in Des Plaines, Illinois. She was an active swimmer, golfer, and bowler, playing in several leagues over the years, and taught preschool gym classes at the YMCA and Des Plaines Park District. Shirley also loved tending to her garden, planting flowers and harvesting vegetables. She absolutely adored her dogs and was especially fond of pugs. She will be deeply missed.

Family and friends to meet at the main office at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 E Euclid Ave, Arlington Heights, IL 60004 for a 1pm graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
